A remote visit still needs a health check
A remote prescription in Arizona does not always need an earlier in-person visit, under the rules as of October 3, 2026. A
The examination must still fit the care, and the clinician must follow the rules for that medicine. A
A remote service being available does not mean it fits your situation. B
Ask in your own words
Can you check my health needs during this visit, or do you need to examine me in person?
Consent comes before the visit in most cases
Informed consent means agreeing to care after its nature has been explained.
Before most remote care in Arizona, the patient must give informed consent under the rules as of October 3, 2026. If you agree by speaking, the clinician must put that agreement in your medical record. C
Usual privacy protections still apply to remote care. C
A phone-only visit has specific limits
Arizona’s telehealth definition as of October 6, 2026, includes care by phone alone if the clinician finds that the patient’s abilities, technology or connection make video use unreasonable. D
The allowed reasons are limits in the patient’s physical or mental abilities, a lack of needed technology, or gaps in phone or internet connections. D
This definition does not make every phone visit suitable for prescribing. D
Ask in your own words
If video is unavailable, how can you check my health needs?
Make a plan for an examination or test
Medical-board guidance says that if checking your health needs requires a test or examination, the clinician must do it, arrange it for you or refer you to a place that can. E
That national guidance is a model for boards; it is not itself Arizona law. E
Ask how you will get test results and what happens after the visit.
